the Matrix

Only 30 minutes west of the festival grounds is the begging of the rock climbing areas. The Matrix is a new cragging area recently developed by Bryan Burdo with 60 routes from 5.6 to 5.11. Mostly well bolted sport climbs, and a couple trad lines with bolted anchors.

A guidebook with route specifics, photos, and grades can be obtained from the good folks at the Goat's Beard in Mazama.  Click here for Mountain Project details

FUN Rock

Also only about 30 minutes west of Sun Mountain is a convenient and varied area, with climbs of many grades called Fun Rock. The rock is of a meta volcanic nature and is generally quite solid.

A guidebook with route specifics, photos, and grades can be obtained from the good folks at the Goat's Beard in Mazama. Just a few miles west of the Mazama General Store, there is a parking lot identified by a sign "Climbing Rock Parking". Park here.

Liberty Bell.jpg

Liberty bell

Liberty Bell is the striking northern summit of the Liberty Bell massif, a group that includes Concord Tower as well as the Early Winter Spires. The east face is home to the famous Liberty Bell Crack, while the south west face is home to the moderate and popular Beckey route. The summit is at 7720'.

The access to Liberty Bell is from the Washington Pass area about 50 minutes west of the festival area.

For more info check out the Mountain Project Page or consult your Beckey guide.
